Best Golf Rangefinder Reviews – Buying Guide of Golf Rangefinder?

Best Golf Rangefinder Reviews -About Golf Rangefinder

how to choose Golf Rangefinder

Best Golf Rangefinder Reviews - A Golf Rangefinder is a device that is used to calculate the distance to a certain point in a golf course. In many cases, players use it to accurately measure their distance from the pin or green but it can be used for a multitude of instances, such as measuring the distance to a line of trees, or a hazard on the course so that the player may make an informed decision based on the readings on the device. It can also be used to measure the distance to the players in front in order to avoid hitting them.

Today’s rangefinders employ the use of laser light. This technology is called LIDAR: Light Detection And Ranging. The gadget emits a laser beam and measures the time it takes for the beam to be reflected back to the device. It then uses that information to compute the distance. In most cases, a Golf Rangefinder is a simple point and shoot device much like a camera. You simply look through the eyepiece, point the cross-hairs at the target and press the button. The distance to that object will be shown almost immediately through the eyepiece.

The Golf Rangefinder differs from a GPS device because the GPS device relies on satellites to locate itself on a map and a database of points on the map. If a golf course has not been recorded on the GPS database, the GPS device becomes useless, whereas the rangefinder will work as long as the target is visible. In bad weather, rangefinder might not work because it may not be able to “see” the target while a GPS has a “memory” to work on. In defense of the rangefinder, hardly anyone plays golf in bad weather anyway.

A rangefinder is a valuable tool in golf because it gives out accurate information to the player. Some players use the information to help them choose the right club that will take the ball there, while others use the rangefinder to help them find out how far the ball will go when they use a particular club. So whether the player knows the clubs in his bag or just getting to know them, a Golf Rangefinder is a very nice piece of equipment to have.

How to choose Golf Rangefinder?

In order to find the right one, first confirm that what you have a is Golf Rangefinder and not a Hunting Rangefinder. Be aware that the two do not operate the same way. The Golf Rangefinder will range the first object in the cross hairs, while the Hunting Rangefinder will range the object behind it.

Power and magnification

With that settled, the next thing to look into is power and magnification.  The more power on it, the farther it can range objects. One has to remember however, that in the game of golf, a player most probably will not hit the ball more than 300 yards. A player will most probably scan an object at 500 yards only as a matter of curiosity, but will range the 100 to 280 yard area often to scan his landing area for hazards. A golf rangefinder with a power to deliver measurements up to 1500 yards would be nice to have but would certainly be a poor investment for the golfer if that is all it can boast of. If it has other options that go with its power, like cutting through fog and other atmospheric conditions, or scan multiple objects at one time then the investment is a sound one.

Magnification, on the other hand, is a good thing to have. Most Golf Rangefinders will probably magnify up to 6x, but the higher the power of magnification, the better. Check to see if the picture is clear.

Reticles

One important thing to check is the reticles – the cross-hairs or the aiming points on the gadget. A golf rangefinder could have illuminated reticles and black reticles. Check to see if the reticle is visible in the conditions that you are going to use them. If the reticle is illuminated, it may be difficult to see under strong sunlight. The black painted cross-hairs might be difficult to see when the ambient light is low or against a dark background.

Size and weight

Size and weight is also an important factor. If the rangefinder is too big or too heavy to fit in your pocket, it would certainly be too big or too heavy to lug around in a golf course for over 3 hours. Especially if the player goes on the course frequently.

Accuracy

Although accuracy is one of the things that come to mind, in most cases, an inaccurate reading is only a matter of calibration. The reticle could be pointing at one object while the laser is pointing at another. And remember that the laser must reflect directly back to the device for an accurate reading. When pointing to something flat on the ground, such as the ground in the distance or a body of water, the light could bounce off the surface and strike another object before coming back. The reticle could therefore be pointing at one point while the light is reflecting from something else entirely. There are also some materials that absorb laser light.

Price

And  finally about the Price – It is important to know whether the Golf Rangefinder in question is within budget or whether it is a sensible investment. While a person could buy the most expensive rangefinder in the market, it may be too expensive for something as a game of golf. On the other hand, a cheap rangefinder may give the barest of functions at the best of conditions and then becomes useless in others. When it comes to price, just be sensible about it and decide whether the investment is worth it or not.
